Two charities have benefited from film fans in the Glenkens.

Dalry Film Club’s charity night raised £590 to be shared between Parkinson’s UK and Marie Curie.

More than 70 people crammed into the town hall for a showing of the remake of the classic Whisky Galore, the club getting to use a new projection kit bought thanks to a Filmbankmedia Ltd grant.

Audience members were treated to traditional Scottish tunes from Anne Chaurand on guitar and Fiona Edgar on fiddle as they arrived. The evening ended with a well-supported raffle and – in keeping with the film – there was a whisky-tasting session. As is customary with all Dalry Film Club shows, there was an array of home-baking to go with the teas.

Jan Mattison, of Parkinson’s UK, said: “It’s only through the commitment of groups such as this and the generosity of people that we can provide vital services. We appreciate their efforts.”
