Family affair in stroke play championship
The Kirkcudbright Stroke Play Championship was played at Dalbeattie Golf Club on Sunday when 32 of the best golfers competed for the scratch trophy.
The weather was sunny and warm and the course in good condition, which resulted in a close finish.
Winner was local player Craig Smith, on a countback from Douglas Borland of Southerness after both scored 70.
Craig’s father, Billy Smith, won the handicap prize with a score of (6) 68.
The top eight players go through to the Kirkcudbright Match Play Championship on Sunday, May 27.
The draw is: C Smith (Dbt) v I McBeth (CD); C Gray (Kbt) v C Heuchan (S’ness); G Blayney (Dbt) v C Riddick (S’ness);W Smith (Dbt) v D Borland (S’ness).
Kirkcudbrightshire Team Championship
The quarter final of the championship was played on Monday evening in excellent conditions.
Through to the semi final are Kirkcudbright (bye); Castle Douglas, who defeated Dalbeattie 4.5 to 1.5; Southerness, who defeated New Galloway 6-0; Gatehouse who defeated Brighouse Bay 5-1.
The semi final-draw is Castle Douglas v Southerness and Gatehouse v Kirkcudbright. Matches to be played on Monday, May 21.
