Fam­ily af­fair in stroke play cham­pi­onship

The Kirkcud­bright Stroke Play Cham­pi­onship was played at Dal­beat­tie Golf Club on Sun­day when 32 of the best golfers com­peted for the scratch tro­phy.

The weather was sunny and warm and the course in good con­di­tion, which re­sulted in a close fin­ish.

Winner was lo­cal player Craig Smith, on a count­back from Dou­glas Bor­land of South­er­ness af­ter both scored 70.

Craig’s fa­ther, Billy Smith, won the hand­i­cap prize with a score of (6) 68.

The top eight play­ers go through to the Kirkcud­bright Match Play Cham­pi­onship on Sun­day, May 27.

The draw is: C Smith (Dbt) v I McBeth (CD); C Gray (Kbt) v C Heuchan (S’ness); G Blayney (Dbt) v C Rid­dick (S’ness);W Smith (Dbt) v D Bor­land (S’ness).

Kirkcud­bright­shire Team Cham­pi­onship

The quar­ter fi­nal of the cham­pi­onship was played on Mon­day evening in ex­cel­lent con­di­tions.

Through to the semi fi­nal are Kirkcud­bright (bye); Cas­tle Dou­glas, who de­feated Dal­beat­tie 4.5 to 1.5; South­er­ness, who de­feated New Gal­loway 6-0; Gate­house who de­feated Brig­house Bay 5-1.

The semi fi­nal-draw is Cas­tle Dou­glas v South­er­ness and Gate­house v Kirkcud­bright. Matches to be played on Mon­day, May 21.
