The Galloway News - - DISTRICT NEWS - Stuart Gillespie

Scotland’s smallest royal burgh celebrated the royal wedding in style on Sunday.

More than 100 residents and friends came together for a picnic in the park to enjoy the sunshine and spend a community afternoon together.

There were carnival rides, sack races and throwing wet sponges at a teacher from Kells School.

The pupils turned out in force to support the day and to show off the beautiful willow and blossom arbour that they had created during recent outdoor education sessions.

There was a barbecue, ice cream, Pimms donated by The Smithy Tearooms and strawberries donated by Tesco. There were stalls by Fabby Cakes, New Galloway Community Shop and LING.

The afternoon was made possible by the New Galloway Celebratory Events Committee, a sub- committee of LING – many thanks are due to all the volunteers who put so much effort into making it such an enjoyable event.

Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity to bring the community together and much fun was had by all.
