Dale scorches to title in heat
Jonathan sees off challengers for Beeches win
Around 80 runners set off at the same time as the half marathon for the 11k Beeches Run which also started and finished in the academy grounds.
It was a triumph for Dumfries RC athlete Jonathan Dale who was first in a time of 43.24 after fighting off a strong challenge from Ritchie Thomson, of Penicuik Harriers, who was just 29 seconds behind with Hamilton Harrier Andrew Bickerstaff third in 44.43.
Just over a minute separated the first three runners.
Jonathan, who won the award for the vet male section as well as the Beauty and Fitness Studio Trophy for the overall winner, admitted: “It was very close and I’m just delighted to win. It’s a scenic run and it was nice to get the victory but it was very warm and I was feeling the heat.”
It was a good run for Iain McMurtrie, of the Hardrock Hoodlums, who was fifth in a time of 45.52.
Sian Finlay, of Dumfries Running Club, took the Lyndsay Line Quaich for overall female winner with a time of 47.17. She also won the award for the vet female and finished eighth overall.
Sian said: “It was a good race through some lovely countryside. It was warm for everyone but it was a good race and I’m just delighted to win the ladies’ title.”
Gary Burns, of the Hardrock Hoodlums from Dalbeattie, was ninth overall in a time of 47.36 and was second in the vet male section.
Lucas Pedley was 10th overall and first in the under-18 section in a time of 49.01, while former Annan Athletic player Chris Jardine finished in a time of 50.06.
