Live­stock wor­ry­ing bill bid

MSP Emma Harper chaired talks at Holy­rood on live­stock wor­ry­ing ahead of her forth­com­ing Mem­bers’ Bill to im­prove laws on the is­sue.

Or­gan­i­sa­tions in­clud­ing NFU Scot­land, The Na­tional Sheep As­so­ci­a­tion (NSA) and the SSPCA at­tended.

Ms Harper said: “Ev­ery­one is united that more needs to be done to pro­tect the liveli­hoods of farm­ers and to pro­tect the wel­fare of live­stock, par­tic­u­larly sheep.”

Kathy Pee­bles, vicechair­man of NSA Scot­land, wel­comed the move.

She said: “We would hope this pro­posed bill will help raise aware­ness. The prob­lem can be avoided if own­ers would put their dog on a lead when they see sheep.”

Ms Harper will be hold­ing fur­ther meet­ings on the is­sue across the re­gion.

They in­clude The King’s Arms, Cas­tle Dou­glas, on July 12, from 6.30pm; and Dum­fries Rugby Club, on July 25, from 6.30pm.
