Water lot of family fun
Dalbeattie Family Hub got creative to kick off its summer holiday programme lastTuesday – by building model boats using old recycled materials.
The fun activity in the Masonic Social club on Copland Street got under way at 1pm with plastic bottles, fast food cartons, paper cups and other items being imaginatively assembled into some weird and wonderful craft – some more seaworthy than others!
Other activities for the children included sensory play and songs for the younger ones.
Once the tiny vessels were made, the families headed off to Colliston Park to test them in the water.
And the perfect summer weather meant kids and mums had no hesitation in jumping in for the big launch.
Organiser Louise Pickthall said: “The children made some fantastic boats from materials donated by local catering businesses. They had great fun building them.
“We had four amazing young leaders help us with running the event as well as two parent volunteers and a young photographerTaylor Smith who will be following our summer programme.
“At Colliston Park we all jumped in the river to race and catch the boats while the little ones watched.”
The winner received a £5 gift voucher kindly donated by McCowan & Son, Dalbeattie.
