The Galloway News - - THE WEEKEND TICKET -

Gaelic celebration comes to Galloway when the renowned singer Mary Ann Kennedy, right, sets the mood for the first ever conference on the Gaelic legacy in the south west.

Mary Ann, presenter of BBC’s “World on Three”, is performing at CatStrand in New Galloway tomorrow - the eve of the“Galloway: Gaelic’s Lost Province” conference the next day when nine leading Gaelic scholars will explore the history of Gaelic in the area.

She will be joined by long-time musical ‘partner-in-crime’, FinlayWells, for a joyous evening of Gaelic song. They’ll be showcasing material from Mary Ann’s highly acclaimed debut album,“An Dàn” (The Song), a unique collection of original Gaelic songwriting. They’ll also be previewing songs from Mary Ann’s follow-up release, “Glaschu”, a love-song to her urban Glasgow Gaelic upbringing, as well as paying their respects to the legacy of traditional song passed on through Mary Ann’s family, the Campbells of Greepe from the Isle of Skye.

The conference is sold out but some tickets are still available for Mary Ann’s concert.
