The start of the newTen­nent’s Scot­tish League for sea­son 2018-19 brought some sur­pris­ing re­sults on the first day.

Dum­fries Saints beat Big­gar twice last sea­son but found them too strong this time, Big­gar win­ning 17-5 at Dum­fries. GHK went top of Na­tional LeagueTwo beat­ing Lass­wade 48-15.

Ten­nent’s Na­tion­alThree saw New­ton Stewart have a con­vinc­ing 25-0 win over far trav­elled Caith­ness while newly pro­moted Car­rick lead the ta­ble af­ter beat­ing Hadding­ton 67-22.

West Di­vi­sion One: Ste­wartry suf­fered their big­gest ever first league game de­feat as they lost 59-7 at newly pro­moted Stra­then­drick, who are un­beaten in the leagues since the sec­ond week of last sea­son.

An­nan started strongly with a hard fought win away at Dalziel 19-7 with the other re­sults Greenock­Wan. 63 Cum­nock 24, East Kil­bride 17 Cam­bus­lang 16, Garnock 13 Al­lan Glens 24 and Irvine 25 Kil­marnock 17.

West Divi­sionTwo: Newly pro­moted Wig­town­shire lost 23-43 at home to Pais­ley. Ud­dingston top the ta­ble with a 85-12 win away at Mill­brae.

West Divi­sionThree: Mof­fat also lost at home to Lochaber 15-26 while Isle of Mull go top af­ter beat­ing Shaw­lands 48-0.

On Sun­day Ste­wartry Rugby wel­comed the fa­mous Cal­cutta Cup, won by Scot­land beat­ing Eng­land back in Fe­bru­ary, to a wet Green­law with many self­ies and group pho­tos taken by the Ste­wartry Sharks af­ter their train­ing ses­sion.

Ste­wartry Sirens played a 10-a-side game against a de­pleted Mur­ray­field team who had a shock break-up mid­week but did not want to let the Sirens down and turned up for a friendly game, the vis­i­tors win­ning 27-19.

The rest of theWomen’s Premier League went ahead with An­nan War­riors find­ing pro­mo­tion a large step up, los­ing 62-5 away at Corstor­phine. League lead­ers Hill­head Jor­dan­hill Women won the Glas­gow derby beat­ing Cartha Queens Park 42-7.
