Trio in the dock

Three women have ap­peared to­gether in court fol­low­ing a se­ries of al­leged in­ci­dents in Cas­tle Dou­glas at the week­end.

Ash­leigh Chalmers, 29, and Caitlin Rank­ine, 24, both of Dee Av­enue, along with 18-year-old Erin McClone, of Burgh­field Gar­dens, all Cas­tle Dou­glas, were in the dock at Dum­fries Sher­iff Court.

Chalmers pleaded not guilty to be­hav­ing in a threatenin­g man­ner at Dee Av­enue shout­ing and swear­ing at po­lice of­fi­cers, mak­ing threats and abu­sive re­marks.

She also de­nied mak­ing false al­le­ga­tions on a 999 call that po­lice of­fi­cers were break­ing into a house, as­sault­ing a po­lice­woman by re­peat­edly strik­ing her with a pair of hand­cuffs and twist­ing her hand, and strug­gling vi­o­lently with of­fi­cers.

Rank­ine pleaded not guilty to ob­struct­ing of­fi­cers ar­rest­ing McClone and re­peat­edly at­tempt­ing to open the door of a po­lice ve­hi­cle in which Chalmers was de­tained.

Trial in their cases was set for De­cem­ber while sen­tence on McClone was de­ferred af­ter she pleaded guilty to re­sist­ing and ob­struct­ing po­lice of­fi­cers and at­tempt­ing to free Chalmers, throw­ing a piece of con­crete at a po­lice of­fi­cer which struck him on the body, and as­sault­ing a po­lice­woman by re­peat­edly punch­ing her and spit­ting on her.
