Dalbeattie Civic Flower Show

The Galloway News - - DALBEATTIE CIVIC FLOWER SHOW -

The Dalbeattie Civic Flower and Produce Show was held in the town hall on Sunday, August 26.

The show, which was opened by Mr Tommy Henderson was a tremendous success with more than 600 exhibitors, showing an amazing array of flowers, vegetables and crafts with the usual competitors vying to acquire the trophies.

There was a super display in the flower and pot plant section and the baking section was also well supported, making judging very difficult.

The floral art section saw some beautiful arrangements and in the arts and crafts there was a splendid show of talent with two new classes added this year, upcycled material and metalwork.

The children’s section showcased some amazing creations and organisers were pleased to see the show is looking secure for future years.

The painting classes had few entries in each class, despite there being so many talented artists in the region so it was rather disappointing but the photography section always produces some lovely pictures.

And as usual the walking sticks, horn lamps and wooden items had some beautiful work on display.

Judging is never easy and organisers would like to thank them for making those difficult decisions.

The overall winner with the most points this year (despite having said she would possibly not be entering as many classes as in previous years) was once again Lorna Murray. Her enthusiasm and support for the show is to be commended.

Mr Henderson presented the prizes, ably assisted by Civic Queen Ciara McQuarry.
