Satur­day events start

There has been lit­tle com­pe­ti­tion ori­en­teer­ing lately but Sol­way Ori­en­teers are now ready to of­fer their monthly Satur­day com­pe­ti­tions.

To be pre­pared, some trav­elled over the bor­der last week to get in some nav­i­ga­tion prac­tice in de­cent weather. Dave and Jane McQuillen tried Bor­der Lin­ers Cum­brian Galop­pen at Swin­dale. Dave ran to a very cred­itable place of eighth on the green course. Wife Jane ran short green and fin­ished in 19th po­si­tion.

West Cum­bria club held itsd Galop­pen the next day at High Brow, Keswick. Joyce Ram­mell was the only Sol­way mem­ber to com­pete and ended 13th on the short green.

This com­ing Satur­day, Sol­way will host a score event at Sham­bel­lie. This means all com­peti­tors need to be there be­tween 10am and 10.30am for a mass start at 10.45am. Run­ners are given ei­ther 45 or 70 min­utes to visit as many con­trol points as pos­si­ble in the wood. Cost for the map is £3.50/£2 for se­niors/ju­niors with a charge of £2/£1 levy for non-mem­bers, and regis­tra­tion will be in the car park at the en­trance to Sham­bel­lie House.

There will also be a sim­ple be­gin­ners’ course for those wish­ing to try ori­en­teer­ing for the first time.

This is in align­ment with the Doors Open Day and has no charge at­tached to it. Start times for this course is 10.30am to 11.30am and cour­ses close at 12.15pm.

Af­ter the event, mem­bers will make their way to Sham­bel­lie House which has been made avail­able to the club mem­bers to have lunch and at­tend the club AGM.
