New session starts at the fiddle club
There was a varied programme at the opening meeting of the Castle Douglas Accordion and Fiddle Club season.
On accordion were Newby Park and Reg White, from Carlisle, Alan Paterson, from Newton Stewart, Kenny Jackson, of Stonehaven, and Susan Power, Dumfries.
Graham Woods, from Lockerbie, played the drum, Robert Dalgleish, of Dumfries, and Kirkcudbright’s John Cowan played the fiddle, while George Shanks played moothie and spoons. Pat Clark accompanied as required on keyboards. The three guest artistes were Derek Hamilton on lead accordion, Ian Graham on second box and Gordon Young on drum.
They played a selection of tunes of different tempos including waltzes, jigs and some modern ballroom. Derek also entertained with some songs and a few funny stories.
The next meeting will be at Springholm Memorial Hall on October 16, at 7.30 pm. From November, meetings will be at the new venue of Threave Rovers FC, Castle Douglas.
