New ses­sion starts at the fid­dle club

There was a var­ied pro­gramme at the open­ing meet­ing of the Cas­tle Dou­glas Ac­cor­dion and Fid­dle Club sea­son.

On ac­cor­dion were Newby Park and Reg White, from Carlisle, Alan Pater­son, from New­ton Ste­wart, Kenny Jack­son, of Stone­haven, and Su­san Power, Dum­fries.

Graham Woods, from Locker­bie, played the drum, Robert Dal­gleish, of Dum­fries, and Kirkcud­bright’s John Cowan played the fid­dle, while Ge­orge Shanks played moothie and spoons. Pat Clark ac­com­pa­nied as re­quired on key­boards. The three guest artistes were Derek Hamil­ton on lead ac­cor­dion, Ian Graham on sec­ond box and Gor­don Young on drum.

They played a se­lec­tion of tunes of dif­fer­ent tem­pos in­clud­ing waltzes, jigs and some mod­ern ball­room. Derek also en­ter­tained with some songs and a few funny sto­ries.

The next meet­ing will be at Springholm Me­mo­rial Hall on Oc­to­ber 16, at 7.30 pm. From Novem­ber, meet­ings will be at the new venue of Th­reave Rovers FC, Cas­tle Dou­glas.
