Jour­ney to the wild

In­cred­i­ble Jour­neys is the ti­tle of the next event in the an­nual in­door pro­gramme or­gan­ised by the RSPB’s Gal­loway lo­cal group.

Giv­ing the talk is Brian Mor­rell, an ex­pert from the Wild­fowl andWet­land­sTrust (WWT).

Since 1992, he has been based atWWT Caerlave­rock, a key wet­land re­serve well known for the pop­u­la­tion of bar­na­cle geese which over­win­ter there.

Brian has been for­tu­nate to have been able to fol­low the geese on sev­eral ex­pe­di­tions to Bear Is­land and Spits­ber­gen.

A lo­cal lad, Brian grad­u­ated in zo­ol­ogy, even­tu­ally end­ing up back in Dum­fries and Gal­loway.

Start­ing as a vol­un­teer at Caerlave­rock, he then worked as re­serve war­den, learn­ing man­ager and now cen­tre man­ager.

Brian says that af­ter 26 years there he still en­joys it im­mensely.

The talk takes place on Mon­day at 7.30pm in the Gor­don Memo­rial Hall in Cas­tle Dou­glas.
