Journey to the wild
Incredible Journeys is the title of the next event in the annual indoor programme organised by the RSPB’s Galloway local group.
Giving the talk is Brian Morrell, an expert from the Wildfowl andWetlandsTrust (WWT).
Since 1992, he has been based atWWT Caerlaverock, a key wetland reserve well known for the population of barnacle geese which overwinter there.
Brian has been fortunate to have been able to follow the geese on several expeditions to Bear Island and Spitsbergen.
A local lad, Brian graduated in zoology, eventually ending up back in Dumfries and Galloway.
Starting as a volunteer at Caerlaverock, he then worked as reserve warden, learning manager and now centre manager.
Brian says that after 26 years there he still enjoys it immensely.
The talk takes place on Monday at 7.30pm in the Gordon Memorial Hall in Castle Douglas.
