Great evening of fellowship
Dumfries and Kirkcudbright Presbytery
Songs of Praise service was conducted by the Reverend J. Stuart Mill, Moderator of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright Presbytery, on September 16 at Thornhill Parish Church.
The moderator is minister of Thornhill, Durisdeer, Penpont, Tynron and Keir Parish Churches.
There was a warm welcome and call to worship. Hymn: Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven. The first Old Testament reading was by Margaret Irving. Hymn: What a friend we have in Jesus.
The next epistle reading was by Elizabeth McMillan. Hymn: Lord, the light of your love is shining. With the third gospel reading by Arthur Milton. Hymn: Lord, for the years your love has kept and guided.
The final lesson of reading by Rev John Notman. Hymn: Oh, for a closer walk with God. Prayers of silence and meditation took place.
The moderator spoke of St Ninian as September 16 is known as St Ninian’s day. Born in 360 AD he died in 432 AD. There is a major shrine to St Ninian in the Whithorn Priory.
The theme of the service was related to thankfulness and of Paul’s journey to Damascus and his revelation of Christianity. Hymn: O for a thousand tongues, to sing, with the closing hymn Ye that know the Lord is gracious.
The service concluded with the benediction. The musical accompanist was Mr Colin Bell.
On Presbytery Sunday, Songs of Praise unites the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright, with the sharing of worship together.
The moderator extended an invite, for everyone to attend the reception at the close of service.
