All set for Mark Hill
Solway Orienteers are gearing up for their next major competition this coming weekend. A few travelled to take part in competitions last weekend.
KerryWillacy and daughter Scarlett decided to carry on their return to the sport with a visit to Border Liners’ low key event south of Carlisle at Faulds Brow.
Scarlett ran the novice course to finish 10th while Mum tested herself on the long technical, returning 29th.
Errochty in Perthshire was the venue for round four of the Scottish Orienteering League but few locals made the journey to compete in the league.
Short blue was Dave McQuillen’s choice and his reward was an excellent seventh place. Jane McQuillen returned 24th on the short green.Victoria Graham was the only other Solway member, travelling with fellow Glasgow University colleagues, and she tackled the green course.
This coming Sunday, Dave McQuillen changes tack and is planner for Solway’s major event for this year.
The October round of the South Scotland Orienteering League is being held at Mark Hill, Rockcliffe, and most club stalwarts are involved in helping make it a success.
It will be a step up for most who take part in local events but an excellent test of navigation to get round the various courses. Registration is from 10am till 12 noon for those not pre-entered and maps cost a bit more than other usual events.
Full information on the event and orienteering in general is on the club website: www.solwayorienteers. co.uk .
