Inclusive playpark results unveiled
A Castle Douglas playpark is set for a £125,000 upgrade.
The area at Market Hill came top in a poll of seven potential sites for new, inclusive equipment.
It’s one of four sites in the region in line for improvements. Members of the communities committee will be told the results of a public consultation today.
More than 1,200 people took part, 288 in Castle Douglas. Of those, 55 were people with a disability or carers for someone with one.
Market Hill was their favoured site, just ahead of Lochside Park. Key requirements included equipment for all ages and abilities and a Changing Places toilet.
Consultees also wanted to see paths well maintained and sensory loss and other disabilities considered as well as wheelchair access.
A report to councillors states it is hoped all four new parks will be open by the end of March, 2020.
Committee chairman Andy Ferguson said: “It’s great to see such a high level of response to the survey. This highlights the considerable interest and support for the development of inclusive playparks in communities.”
