Bakery in jobs boost
Ten jobs will be created in Kirkcudbright with the opening of a new bakery next week.
The Little Bakery has taken over the former M Corson shop in St Cuthbert Street and will open on Thursday.
The Dumfries firm – run by father and son Kerr and Nick Little – is already known in the town for the savoury pies sold at the Kirkcudbright Farmers’ Market.
The Grierson family shut the Corson shops in Castle Douglas, Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright earlier this year. A number of former employees have found jobs with The Little Bakery.
Kerr Little, pictured, said: “We had always planned to grow The Little Bakery and when the opportunity arose to trade from the Kirkcudbright shop we jumped at the chance.”
The council’s economic development service and DG Food and Drink have helped with the expansion.
The news has been welcomed by Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson. He said: “I am delighted to have played a role in facilitating the discussions which have resulted in such a positive outcome.”
