Deal or no deal?

The Galloway News - - GALLOWAY VIEW -

Sir – Ultimately the count r y ’ s p e a ce, freedom and boundaries depend on the people’s willingness to defend them. It is for this reason the right to cede sovereignty must lie with the people.

As our democratically elected leader, Theresa May has done her utmost to negotiate a good deal with the EU.

Some may say that the Government never realised the strength of its hand, others that our national position was undermined by those who could not accept that Brexit means Brexit. In any case, we are where we are.

We have had a referendum on the principle. We have decided to leave the EU. We now have to decide whether or not to share our sovereignty with the EU.

The next step should be a “this deal or no deal” referendum. I will campaign for a no deal but accept either result as the will of our sovereign people. Councillor David James Castle Douglas and Crocketford
