Mu­si­cians wanted

Dum­fries and Gal­lowayYouth Orches­tra (DGYO) is up and run­ning – and on the look­out for new mem­bers.

The new en­sem­ble was formed after a one off‘taster day’in­Tro­queer Church Hall, Dum­fries, where school– age chil­dren per­formed a mini–con­cert for friends and fam­ily.

Pieces per­formed in­clud­edThe Hall of the Moun­tain King by Greig and ex­cerpts from Beethoven’s 5th Sym­phony.

Con­duc­tor Jane Hainey, a former vi­o­lin­ist with the BBC Scot­tish Sym­phony Orches­tra, said:“The chil­dren did amaz­ingly well.”

The orches­tra al­ready has mem­bers from Stran­raer to Gretna.

And in the NewYear the DGYO will be hav­ing reg­u­lar re­hearsals and con­certs coached by pro­fes­sional mu­si­cians and teach­ers.
