School’s show jump­ing win

There was a su­perb show jump­ing vic­tory for Char­lie Cay­gill, Na­dia Pow­ell, Jenna Hen­kle­man and Anna Poland as the Kirkcud­bright Academy team trav­elled to Black­dyke Eques­trian Cen­tre on Fri­day, Novem­ber 23, to take part in an in­ter-schools com­pe­ti­tion.

The early morn­ing start was re­warded with the team fin­ish­ing on a score of zero to take the win of the 75cm class, beat­ing 12 other schools from across the re­gion and Cum­bria.

Holly Mur­doch, Yvie Mur­doch, Gemma Cay­gill and Jenna Hen­kle­man also rep­re­sented the school in the 90cm class. Both teams rode in the school’s new sad­dle­cloths kindly em­broi­dered by This­tle Em­broi­dery.

Eques­trian suc­cess at Kirkcud­bright Academy also ex­tends into the dis­ci­pline of dres­sage. Tal­ented rider and 2018 Ste­wartry Sports Per­son­al­ity nom­i­nee, Carla Milne, has added yet an­other achieve­ment to her numer­ous re­gional and na­tional wins.

Carla and her horse Hey Good Look­ing GK were the win­ners of the MFS Stud Young Horse Tro­phy. Dres­sage Sup­port­ers Scot­land awarded this to Carla as a re­sult of her three best scores at novice level which saw her top the Young Horse League.

In Oc­to­ber Carla won the novice un­der 21 cham­pi­onship and was the high­est placed BD youth rider in the novice class at the Pet Plan Area Fes­ti­val Fi­nal.

Dres­sage suc­cess does not end there, S2 pupil Rose Fo­ley was fourth in the novice class at Scot­tish Cham­pi­onships in Septem­ber. Rose and her pony Ber­tie also won the novice freestyle cham­pi­onship.
