School’s show jumping win
There was a superb show jumping victory for Charlie Caygill, Nadia Powell, Jenna Henkleman and Anna Poland as the Kirkcudbright Academy team travelled to Blackdyke Equestrian Centre on Friday, November 23, to take part in an inter-schools competition.
The early morning start was rewarded with the team finishing on a score of zero to take the win of the 75cm class, beating 12 other schools from across the region and Cumbria.
Holly Murdoch, Yvie Murdoch, Gemma Caygill and Jenna Henkleman also represented the school in the 90cm class. Both teams rode in the school’s new saddlecloths kindly embroidered by Thistle Embroidery.
Equestrian success at Kirkcudbright Academy also extends into the discipline of dressage. Talented rider and 2018 Stewartry Sports Personality nominee, Carla Milne, has added yet another achievement to her numerous regional and national wins.
Carla and her horse Hey Good Looking GK were the winners of the MFS Stud Young Horse Trophy. Dressage Supporters Scotland awarded this to Carla as a result of her three best scores at novice level which saw her top the Young Horse League.
In October Carla won the novice under 21 championship and was the highest placed BD youth rider in the novice class at the Pet Plan Area Festival Final.
Dressage success does not end there, S2 pupil Rose Foley was fourth in the novice class at Scottish Championships in September. Rose and her pony Bertie also won the novice freestyle championship.
