Jack en­joys suc­cess at re­gional fi­nal

The David Keswick Cen­tre in Dum­fries hosted the fi­nal D&G ten­nis com­pe­ti­tion for play­ers aged eight years and un­der re­cently.

There were two new play­ers tak­ing part, Ea­mon Mc­Far­lane from the Ste­wartry Com­mu­nity Sports Club and Caitlin Top­ping from Dum­fries Ten­nis Club. There were also some play­ers play­ing in only their sec­ond or third events, Lucy Scade and Stella Hod­gins from Dum­fries Ten­nis Club and An­gus McCreary from Ea­gles­field.

The for­mat had two groups of play­ers with Jack Wear­ing, Do­minik Czopek, Ethan Ley­man all Dum­fries and Ea­mon all qual­i­fy­ing for the semi­fi­nals with Adam Hunter, Isaac Sharp, Stella Hod­gins again all Dum­fries be­ing joined by Ava Rim­ming­ton from Tyne and Wear in the con­so­la­tion event.

In the main semi-fi­nal draw Jack edged a tight bat­tle against club­mate Ethan to win 10-9, whilst Do­minik used all his ex­pe­ri­ence to beat Ea­mon who was play­ing in his first event 10-4. Ethan claimed third spot by beat­ing Ea­mon 10-1, then Jack de­feated an­other club­mate in Do­minik to win 10-3 and claim the win.

In the con­so­la­tion event Adam and Isaac pro­gressed to the fi­nal be­fore Adam se­cured the vic­tory 10-5.
