South v East in the final of shield
The final of the South/ East Cup Winners Shield takes place at Lockerbie on Saturday when Bonnyton Thistle, winners of the South’s Alba Cup, will play Camelon Juniors, winners of the East equivalent.
This should be a good contest, although the East League side from the Falkirk area will start as slight favourites as they have gone eight games undefeated.
However, the Kilmarnock team – who now lie in second place in the South League – are well equipped to make their mark and the result is expected to be close.
Bonnyton will carry the best wishes of the rest of the clubs as they fly the flag for the South.
The league matches kick off tomorrow evening when Mid Annandale entertain Abbey Vale for the second week in succession with the Lockerbie side coming out on top last time round by the odd goal in three.
It is expected that once again this game will be close as both sides are enjoying good form.
There are six matches due to go ahead on Saturday with leaders Stranraer hosting neighbours Newton Stewart. Current form would suggest the home side’s unbeaten run will continue, probably with some ease.
Lochar Thistle and Upper Annandale are tied on 28 points from 13 matches and meet at Moffat this weekend.
Lochar lost their unbeaten record last weekend when they were beaten by Nithsdale Wanderers so will be keen to bounce back but Uppers are enjoying a good run and with home advantage could maybe just edge it to take the three points.
Creetown play Lochmaben at Castle Cary in another contest that could go close but one in which the home team are more than capable of taking the three points.
Another victory in a good run would see Nithsdale Wanderers overtake Threave Rovers in their match at Sanquhar. Form would suggest the Castle Douglas side will go into this as underdogs with the home side favourites.
Although Annan Athletic broke their duck with a draw against Wigtown last weekend they will have to produce something special again if they want to take anything from their match against St Cuthbert Wanderers at St Mary’s Park in Kirkcudbright.
Wigtown have taken seven points from their last three matches and start as favourites to add another three in their match against Dumfries YMCA at Trammondford.
Depending on results elsewhere, this could see the Shire side move further up the table. Fixtures
