A call to choir singers for spectacular concert
The Dumfries Community Choir is appealing for people to join them for their next spectacular concert as part of the Big Burns Supper festival.
Last year the choir swelled its ranks when it invited the town to join them in performing the Stone Roses classic, Resurrection.
The performance was a major success at the festival and went on to become a huge hit on Youtube where over 150,000 people have viewed it online – many of them Stone Roses fans amazed at hearing one of their favourite songs performed as never before.
Now the choir is hoping to beat their record with a new track – yet to be revealed – to be performed on January 29 in a free concert in the Big Burns Supper’s famous Spiegeltent.
And they need more people to join them to make it happen.
Dumfries Community Choir began in 2011 when Graham Main, executive producer of the Big Burns Supper, put an appeal in the Standard asking if anyone was interested in singing together.
The choir grew and together pick a variety of pop and rock songs to perform at events in the local area all through the year.
Their ‘Open House’ at the Big Burns Supper is becoming one of the festival favourites.
Graham said: “Last year’s performance of Resurrection was such an uplifting event for everyone involved and we had such great feedback at the event and online.
“It means a lot to us to be able to put community events like this on during the festival alongside such stars as KT Tunstall, Craig Charles and Ed Byrne.
“We hope lots of people will join us either by coming along to rehearsals or even just turning up on the day.
“It will be amazing and broadcast to the whole world so they can see the wonderful community spirit we have in Dumfries.”
