Storm Deirdre hit region’s roads
A fallen tree caused the Castle Douglas to Ayr road to be shut on Saturday afternoon.
The tree fell on a powerline north of Carsphairn as the Stewartry felt the effects of Storm Deirdre.
The A713 was shut around 3pm close to Dumfries and Galloway’s border with South Ayrshire. It was re-opened a couple of hours later.
Storm Deirdre also caused other difficulties in the area as the Met Office issued an amber warning for snow, ice and freezing rain.
There were problems with surface water near Gatehouse of fleet and travelling conditions were also poor from Kirkcudbright westwards as temperatures plummeted.
The weather also played havoc with the sporting calendar with Creetown’s game against Annan Athletic andThreave Rovers’match atWigtown called off due to waterlogged pitches. And Dalbeattie Star’s game at Islecroft against Edinburgh side Spartans was called off due to the potential for poor travel conditions.
