Club appeals for volunteers
Local cycling club StewartryWheelers has issued a plea for more adult volunteers to ride to the rescue.
The club boasts a membership ofmore than 100 – mostly under–16 – but badly needs extra hands on the committee.
Treasurer Stuart Adamson said:“We still have a huge bunch of kids involved practising and racing but we are struggling to get people to come and help.
“We still have plenty of funding available for coaching classes and it won’t cost anybody anything.
“But the same team has been in place for a while and want to move on and share roles within the club.
Many of the current committee members have done their bit and we need new volunteers to keep things going. “So we would greatly appreciate people thinking about volunteering for positions on the committee or training to be a coach. You don’t need to be a rider to help out.”
The positions of secretary, chair, race secretary and welfare officer need to be filled, Mr Adamson said.
The club is also happy to put new coaches through coach training at no cost.
Mr Adamson added:“Sadly, without some new people stepping forward we may be forced into winding the club up, or combining with another club.”
StewartryWheelers provides regular coaching and plays an active part in the South–west ScotlandWinter Race Series.
Next race is at Carlingwark Park, Castle Douglas on Sunday January 27.
Anyone able to help out can get in touch via the StewartryWheelers Facebook page.
