Dumfries and Kirkcudbright Nursery Sheep Dog Trials held a trial on Sunday, December 16 at Gaups Mill, Moniaive, by kind permission of Mr Hugh Rorison.
Fourteen dogs ran in total, judged by Mr Ian Lockhart from Dalrymple.
The course was flat with no fetch gates but a left-hand drive and a shoot. The five Blackface hoggs were good to handle round the course and gave the young dogs a good chance.
The competition winner was Dean Aitken from Lockerbie running Tweeddale Vicky. Vicky ran out to the right-hand well and lifted the sheep nice and smoothly only dropping two points out of 30 for both these elements.
Vicky fetched the sheep down the course to Dean on a good line and at a nice pace, just dropping minor points for slight line deviations. The pair had a nice turn round the handler and set off on a nice line up the first leg of the drive and safely through the gates. Vicky turned the sheep and headed on a good line for the cross drive and safely through the second drive gates only losing seven points for minor line deviations out of a total of 30. They had to work at the pen as the sheep were a little unsettled but eventually secured all five sheep through the shoot.
The duo finished on full marks for the shed and a total score of 81 out of 100.
Second place went to Duncan Robertson from Langholm running Royon a total score of 75 points out of 100.
