A mu­si­cal master­class

Young peo­ple in the re­gion are be­ing of­fered an op­por­tu­nity for ex­pert tu­ition in a unique Master Class, En­sem­ble and String Quar­tet Week­end, cre­ated es­pe­cially for string play­ers.

The re­gion’s strings stu­dents are in­vited to take part in the work­shop from Fe­bru­ary 15 to 17 at venues in Par­ton and Cas­tle Dou­glas, hosted by Cate Howard, di­rec­tor of Gal­loway Vi­o­lin Stu­dio with guest teach­ers Linda and Domenick Fiore who are co-di­rec­tors of Da Core Tal­ent Ed­u­ca­tion Academy, USA.

The work­shop wi l l in­clude master classes, en­sem­bles and string quar­tet classes for cello, vi­o­lin and vi­ola play­ers and is suitable for mu­si­cians 7-17 years old.

Guest teacher Linda is a re­spected and highly qual­i­fied Suzuki Method Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki As­so­ci­a­tion of the Amer­i­cas who works both in the USA and overseas.

Domenick, pic­tured, has spent his ca­reer as an ac­tive per­former with clas­si­cal, bal­let and jazz or­ches­tras in north east­ern USA, and is also in high de­mand as a cham­ber mu­sic coach and youth orches­tra con­duc­tor.

Domenick cur­rently di­rects the Le high Val­ley Ju­nior Strings Phil­har­monic in Penn­syl­va­nia.

They will join Cate, an in­ter­na­tional vi­o­lin teacher

and for­mer stu­dent of Jascha Brod­sky in Philadel­phia Penn­syl­va­nia, and Igor Ozim in Köln Ger­many, who has been teach­ing lo­cal stu­dents in the Ste­wartry for the last two years.

Par­tic­i­pants can sign up for all or just some of the work­shop which in­cludes master classes on Fri­day and Satur­day in Par­ton, a “tone poem” en­sem­ble and orches­tra tech­niques for tweens and teens on Satur­day in Par­ton and a quar­tet work­shop with per­for­mance on Sun­day in Cas­tle Dou­glas Pri­mary School. Cate said: “We’ re ab­so­lutely thrilled to be able to pro­vide what prom­ises to be a fan­tas­tic week­end, with sup­port from Barfil Trust, and would like to en­cour­age enco mm ore lo lo­cal stu stu­dents to j join us and help grow their mu mu­si­cal skill skills. There are lim­ited op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able with these kind of work­shops so we hope peo­ple in Dum­fries and Gal­loway take ad­van­tage of our ex­pert guest tu­tors and leave with a re­newed sense of mo­ti­va­tion, ex­cited to con­tinue de­vel­op­ing their in­stru­men­tal abil­i­ties while striv­ing for higher lev­els of ex­cel­lence.”
