A musical masterclass
Young people in the region are being offered an opportunity for expert tuition in a unique Master Class, Ensemble and String Quartet Weekend, created especially for string players.
The region’s strings students are invited to take part in the workshop from February 15 to 17 at venues in Parton and Castle Douglas, hosted by Cate Howard, director of Galloway Violin Studio with guest teachers Linda and Domenick Fiore who are co-directors of Da Core Talent Education Academy, USA.
The workshop wi l l include master classes, ensembles and string quartet classes for cello, violin and viola players and is suitable for musicians 7-17 years old.
Guest teacher Linda is a respected and highly qualified Suzuki Method Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas who works both in the USA and overseas.
Domenick, pictured, has spent his career as an active performer with classical, ballet and jazz orchestras in north eastern USA, and is also in high demand as a chamber music coach and youth orchestra conductor.
Domenick currently directs the Le high Valley Junior Strings Philharmonic in Pennsylvania.
They will join Cate, an international violin teacher
and former student of Jascha Brodsky in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and Igor Ozim in Köln Germany, who has been teaching local students in the Stewartry for the last two years.
Participants can sign up for all or just some of the workshop which includes master classes on Friday and Saturday in Parton, a “tone poem” ensemble and orchestra techniques for tweens and teens on Saturday in Parton and a quartet workshop with performance on Sunday in Castle Douglas Primary School. Cate said: “We’ re absolutely thrilled to be able to provide what promises to be a fantastic weekend, with support from Barfil Trust, and would like to encourage enco mm ore lo local stu students to j join us and help grow their mu musical skill skills. There are limited opportunities available with these kind of workshops so we hope people in Dumfries and Galloway take advantage of our expert guest tutors and leave with a renewed sense of motivation, excited to continue developing their instrumental abilities while striving for higher levels of excellence.”
