BrodieTurn­er opened the scor­ing af­ter a quar­ter of an hour, clos­ing down a de­fender and win­ning the ball be­fore slot­ting home his first goal of the sea­son.

Tommy Goss hit the bar be­fore get­ting on the score­sheet him­self to dou­ble the lead but Mids were handed a life­line be­fore the break when Dean Smith was tripped in the box.

How­ever, Dar­ren Holt saved Luke Ham­mond’s spot kick and Mids’ chance was gone, es­pe­cially af­ter Craig Mur­ray was sent off in the se­cond half.

Vale co-man­ager Al­lan Clark said:“It was another good win and another three points.We played quite well and we got off to a good start.

“Ob­vi­ously if they had scored the penalty it could have been a com­pletely dif­fer­ent game and it was a good save by Dar­ren.

“In the se­cond half they came at us a bit more but we were able to grind it out and get the win.

“It takes us up to fifth and I think we can get up to fourth if we win our games in hand which would be pleas­ing.

“It’s still pos­si­ble for us to fin­ish third which is the tar­get for the boys now.”

It’s a tough, busy week forVale as they were due to play Edus­port Acad­emy in the Haig Gor­don Cup last night be­fore wel­com­ing Bon­ny­tonThis­tle to Mary­field Park this week­end.

The two sides had a dou­ble header in Kil­marnock re­cently, Bon­ny­ton win­ning the league en­counter be­fore Vale tri­umphed on penal­ties in the cup.

Clark said:“I think it will be a to­tally dif­fer­ent game with it be­ing on grass. The last one was on 3G and I think that suits them more.

“The park was hard and bob­bly on Satur­day which may work in our favour.
