Shooting party fires off at Glenkens club
CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING Glenkens Gun Club held its annual clay pigeon shoot at Craighead Farm, Dalry, on Saturday, May 4.
The weather was much colder than expected for May. However, a field of 29 shooters competed for the many trophies on offer and, although it was dry, scores in general were lower than usual.
John Carson won the W D Lorimer Cup for the full day with a score of 137x150 and he also won the Brian Vincent Rosebowl for the highest overall score for shooters who have never been classified A or AA in down-the-line.
Runner-up to the Rosebowl and taking the Carruthers Cup was Tom Dill with a score of 123x150. The Coupland Cup for event three was won by David McMath with a perfect score of 45x45 after a shootoff with Bobby Renwick.
The McQuaker Cup for veteran shooters over the age of 60 was won by Bobby Renwick with an excellent score of 74x75 and he also collected the D H McCrone Shield for events two and three, having dropped only one point to be five points clear of his nearest rival.
The Kyle Cup and the Carnochan Memorial Trophy, both of which are confined to members of the committee, were won by David Bell. The McNaught Cup for the Pool Trap was won by Finlay Bell and the runner-up was Davie McCulloch.
