Albatec miss out on finals
Al b at e c Racing endured a difficult weekend at the World RX of Great Britain at Silverstone.
The Lochfoot-team had been hoping for success with British Rallycross Champion Mark Higgins once again behind the wheel of the team’s Peugeot 208 RX Supercar.
However, contact in Sunday’s final qualifying race ended what hope they had of making it through to the final.
Te a m principal, Andy Scott, said: “It’s disappointing to have the weekend and our hopes of progressing ended with contact in the final race. It was always going to be a tall order to recover from the damage sustained in the opening two races.
“Mark, as always, drove well, in Q3 particularly with some impressive pace that netted a strong overall position.
“If we could have repeated that in Q4 we could have had a shot at the finals which was our aim before the weekend. All credit to him and the team for getting the car repaired and ready so quickly.”
Saturday’s action started badly for Albatec as Higgins suffered a broken driveshaft as he came over a jump on his first practice lap.
The team’s mechanics, as well as students from the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering at the University of Bolton, did a fine job to replace it before the second session.
However, contact with other cars saw Higgins suffer damage in the first qualifying race, leaving him 15th overall on Saturday night.
He set the ninth fastest overall time in Sunday’s first race but was squeezed into the tyre barrier in the next race, ending his weekend.
Higgins said: “We were chasing a handling issue on day one and seemed to be getting on top of it for the start of day two.
“Once this was resolved we seemed to find a lot more pace. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the car and to come back into it at this level with limited preparation was never going to be easy.
“I enjoyed qualifying three and it’s been great being back in the car and with the team.
“With a little bit more time and preparation, let’s hope for better things next time out.”
