FULL OF COFFEE BEANS
Barista Premium Instant Roast & Ground Coffee (100g)
£1.99, LIDL
VERY fine powder rather than granules that makes a smooth brew that tastes great.
Alcafé Gold Roast (200g) £1.89, ALDI
DRIED granules looked and smelled exactly the same as the big brand. Decent strength with a reasonable caffeine kick and less than 2p a cup.
Dark Roast Freeze Dried Instant Coffee (100g) £1.75, SAINSBURY’S
MADE a very dark drink, but has a decent coffee flavour. Difficult to tell the difference between this and branded coffee.
Extra Special Colombian Instant Coffee (100g) £1.98, ASDA
We all love our mid-morning caffeine hit. We give our verdict on the best supermarket own-brand offerings, from instant to pods
MADE a fair drink that wasn’t bad for the price but needed a bit more of a caffeine kick for our tastes.
Gold Instant Coffee (100g)
£1.85, MORRISONS
CAME out a bit weaker than the others and we found it bland as we struggled to get any hint of coffee flavour.
Ristretto Espresso, intensity 10 (10) £1.49, LIDL
SMELLED very appealing and had a nice smooth and creamy flavour with a decent caffeine kick.
Lungo, intensity 4 (10)
£1.49, ALDI
FLAVOUR was a bit bland and not strong enough for our taste. If you like a weaker brew, this may be one for you.
Finest Leggero Capsules, intensity 6 (10) £2.50, TESCO
SMELLED of perfect fresh coffee. Good depth of flavour with a nice sweet hint of caramel. Gives branded pods a run for their money.
WE liked the slightly creamy flavour, despite tasting it black, as we did with the others. Had a decent caffeine kick.
L’Or Espresso Splendente, intensity 7 (10)
£3, MORRISONS
WE weren’t keen on the bitter smell, and we found the taste a tad bitter too.
Lungo
Coffee Pods, intensity 6 (10)
