Man, 38, arrested in death probe

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a Hartlepool address.

Emergency services went to Charterhou­se Street, off Oxford Road, on Sunday after the discovery.

Crime scene officers and detectives responded to the incident and a forensic tent was erected around midday.

Cleveland Police has now confirmed that a 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death.

The body of the man has not yet been identified, or details of how he is believed to have died.

A post mortem examinatio­n will be carried out to determine that.

A force spokeswoma­n said: “As inquiries into the discovery of a man’s body inside a house on Charterhou­se Street in Hartlepool at the weekend are under way, a 38-yearold man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“He remains in police custody awaiting questionin­g.”

She added: “The victim is still to be formally identified.

“At this stage we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public and police remain in the area providing reassuranc­e to the local community.”

The road was closed after midday on Sunday with crowds of people standing outside the cordon wondering what was going on.

A white vehicle was wrapped and removed from the scene by police.

One person was reported seeing blood on the pavement and over a nearby vehicle.

A number of police officers and scenes of crime investigat­ors remained in the street for more than three hours after the 999 call was first made.

One ambulance was also called to the scene.

Cleveland Police is appealing for anyone with informatio­n to contact the force via the 101 number, quoting Event 159141.
