DEFENDING THE GUILTY BBC2, 10PM
THIS sharp new comedy from the makers of Mum and Rev first aired as a pilot last year, but replays tonight as it kicks off a hilarious new series.
Will (Will Sharpe) plays an idealistic trainee barrister being shown the ropes from his cynical pupilmaster Caroline, played by Humans star Katherine Parkinson.
She’s ruthless as she gets on with defending ‘paedo Nazis’ and ‘granny bashers’, while Will struggles with his conscience.
In this episode, they are defending a murder suspect with overwhelming evidence against him – mainly a bloodsoaked wrench.
“I want to get you off but we’ve got fewer defence points than I’ve got viable eggs,” Caroline tells the suspect.
Meanwhile, Will, whose main job is to fetch Caroline pastries, is worried about beating off competition from three rivals for the job at the end of the year.
“It’s actually kind of scary,” he tells the murderer.
The verdict? A fresh, funny and foul-mouthed show not to be missed.
