A DRINK-DRIVER was caught after crashing his car while more than three times the limit.

Police had been called out to Lingdale, in East Cleveland, on August 4 after John Bringloe, 49, had an accident in his Saab.

Prosecutor Kayleigh Hellens told Teesside Magistrates’ Court the dad-of-two “admitted he had been drinking that same day.

“He was given a roadside breath test which he failed.”

Bringloe was taken to the police station where he blew a reading of 107 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath the legal limit is 35 microgrammes showing that he was over three times the legal limit.

Ms Hellens added: “The defendant was interviewed in respect of the offence and made full and frank admissions.”

He pleaded guilty to one count of drink-driving.

A probation officer told the court Bringloe, who has been deaf since birth and was assisted in court by a sign language expert, was working as a contractor.

He had been told he was no longer required and had been drinking that day.

She said: “He accepts that it was not a good decision but his mood was quite low”, adding that he is in financial difficulty.

She added: “When he goes through a difficult time in his life he said, probably since the age of 18, he does drink to cope.”

The probation worker also claimed the defendant is “very isolated” and presents with some sort of issue with depression.

Bringloe, who was not represented by a solicitor, told district judge Helen Cousins “I’m very sorry”.

He added: “I was born deaf, I have a hearing aid but it doesn’t do anything.”

Bringloe, of Beechcroft Close, Lingdale, was given a community order for 12 months, with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £90 victim surcharge.

He was also disqualified from driving for 22 months.
