THOUGHT it was too late to secure your place at Stockton Riverside College? Well think again. We are still enrolling for courses starting now and we have a wide range of opportunities that could be just right for you.

Need some advice? Our Schools Team are here to help. With so many choices available they can guide you through all your options. The good news is they really know what they are talking about, in fact Conor McKerlie, our Group Student Recruitment Co-ordinator, is a real advocate of the college having started his own career as an apprentice here.

“I love my job because I really believe in what the college has to offer,” he says.

Starting at the college as an admissions apprentice at 16, he never dreamt he would still be here as permanent staff 10 years later. Now it is part of his job to let school leavers know about the choices available to them.

“I meet students in school and then see them go on to join the college,” he says. “To see them then achieve is an amazing feeling. It really does mean a lot.”

At 16 he admits he had no idea what he wanted to do long term, but he chose an apprenticeship as he knew he preferred practical learning outside of the classroom environment. Now he is in a job he loves.

That’s his advice to school leavers and potential students making their education choices today, to consider how you like to learn. Do you prefer hands-on practical sessions or are you a bit of a bookworm? Either way there are choices to suit you.

He says if you are struggling to find the place that feels right, come and have a chat. After all, he adds: “The best way to know if a college is right for you is to get a feel for the place.”

You don’t have to know exactly what you want to do, that’s where the team come in. You can either chat to our careers advisor or if you have a few courses in mind come and meet the teaching staff and make your choice from there.

The advice is pretty simple for anyone deciding what to do next, take a look at the college’s website or course guide, think about the subjects you enjoyed most at school and what you are good at.

Now is not the time to be following your friends, Conor says: “What’s right for them may not be the best option for you.”

The best thing about college life is you get to study the subjects you love and you are surrounded by people with similar interests, so you are sure to make new friends.

If you do know what you want to do in the future, make sure you are choosing the courses you need to get there.

Whether you are still looking for the right place to start your studies now or you have just started Year 10 or 11 and you are starting to think about your next steps make sure Stockton Riverside College is on the list.

Offering a wide range of full and part-time courses and apprenticeships at Stockton Riverside College we can help find the right option for you.
