Resort in £4.3m makeover

HOLIDAY parks enjoyed by generation­s of Teessiders are set for a makeover just in time to welcome staycation­ers this summer.

Parkdean Resorts has announced its Cayton Bay Holiday Park near Scarboroug­h has received a £4.3m cash injection and will be given a major makeover as one of Parkdean’s seven “Parks of the Future”.

A further £1.6m has been invested across five other North East parks, including at Crimdon Dene near Hartlepool.

For the 2021 season the revamped Cayton Bay, a popular spot for holidaymak­ers from Teesside, will include five new luxury lodges and two new caravans, as well as new activities including a dog agility course, an outdoor sports court and a pirate-themed crazy golf course.

A base camp – bringing Bear Grylls Survival Academy and Outdoor ’n’ Explore to Yorkshire – will also feature, as well as an arts and crafts den and a new sports dome, adventure playground, as well as hover boards, bungee trampoline­s and a new indoor heated swimming pool.

The park has also invested in its food and drink offering with an extended bar and restaurant. Crimdon Dene will get two new caravans as part of the seven-figure North East investment that will also see Church Point in Newbiggin by the Sea, Cresswell Towers at Druridge Bay and Sandy Bay in Ashington, all Northumber­land, and the park at Whitley Bay benefit.

The Newcastle based company operates 67 caravan, lodge, cabin, glamping and camping holiday resorts around the UK and is investing £70m across all its parks creating 6,500 seasonal jobs across its UK estate.
