Patient transport vehicle overturns on the A66

A PATIENT transport vehicle has overturned on the A66 near Teesside Park – causing long traffic tailbacks.

The crash happened where the A66 connects to the A19 flyover, close to both Teesside Park and Middlesbro­ugh.

Multiple emergency services including Cleveland Fire Brigade and Cleveland Police responded to the crash, which happened around midday yesterday, with two recovery trucks helping out at the side of the road also.

Police closed the stretch of road as the recovery operation was carried out.

The vehicle left the road and ended up on its side over the barriers.

No-one has been reported as injured in the crash which caused long traffic delays on the A66 leading into Middlesbro­ugh, with queues as far back as the A1045 Thornaby Road.

A spokespers­on from the

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said yesterday: “We were called around 11.50am to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A66. We had a clinical team leader arrive at the scene first, who reported no injuries and the service wasn’t required.”

Cleveland Fire Brigade also confirmed that one crew was in attendance, a spokespers­on adding: “We were called to an incident on July 8, 2022 at 11.47am to a van which is on its side.

“One fire engine in attendance from Middlesbro­ugh. Road between A66 Teesside Park and A19 turn off heading towards Middlesbro­ugh.”

Police vehicles closed the road and directing traffic to diversions, ushering traffic onto the A19 by cutting off the area of the crash with cones and patrol cars.

Footage from the scene showed the vehicle has been badly dented on its front, with damage also the side. The van was loaded onto a recovery truck and taken away from the scene.
