FANS flocked to the Riverside Stadium as Boro launched their new home shirt.

Unveiled by Fabrizio Ravanelli in June, the new home shirt marks the football club’s reunion with Errea, who last shared a partnership during the golden years of the 1990s and 2000s.

Queues of Boro fans lined up outside the stadium on Friday as they waited for the club shop shutters to rise, with one of Boro’s biggest fans Paul Kirkbride, from Park End, arriving around 2am.

Beaming fans were pictured after picking up their new tops, in Middlesbrough, with one seven-year-old even jumping for joy.

Coulby Newham man Billy Wise added that he “used to put a day’s holiday in” to collect his Boro top, and that today was “like Christmas” for him.

The 2022/23

shirt has a retro feel, with a buttoned white round-neck collar and a signature white stripe, which dons the logo of sponsor Unibet. There is also some white trim around both the underside of the arm and slightly down the side of the shirt. Speaking of the new kit, 29-year-old Paul Kirkbride – also known as ‘Chunky’ –said: “They’re alright – I really like the away one because it has a different design.”

Lee Cotterill, from Billingham, also added: “The new shirt is nice and retro. I like that it’s no-nonsense – they haven’t filled it with daft patterns.”

While many Teessiders said they loved the look of the home shirt, a number of fans were quick to point out their love for the away kit, which was unveiled on Tuesday by Massimo Maccarone.

One fan explained: “I think the away [top] is exactly what it needs to be – it stands out.”

Hazel Downs, 63, from Grangetown, added: “I might be the first one in Grangetown with a new Boro top!”

The Boro team’s first match in the Championship will be on Saturday, July 30, in a clash with West Brom at home.
