Blades clash switched due to Games

-

MIDDLESBROUGH and Sheffield United have agreed on a new kick-off time of 2pm after Commonwealth Games disruption caused their Riverside clash to be pushed back.

The game initially slated for Saturday, August 13, will now take place a day later.

The move was confirmed last month because Sheffield United’s League Cup clash away to West Brom had to be moved to the Thursday because of the Commonwealth Games.

The Games are taking place in the Midlands between July 28 and August 8.

It’s one of numerous games that Boro’s opening-day opponents

West Brom have had to reschedule at the request of the Government.

With the Blades’ cup game moved to the Thursday it meant their trip to Teesside had to also be moved back, with the confirmation of that coming last month.

But no kick-off time had been agreed at that point, but it has now been confirmed the two clubs have agreed on a 2pm kick-off at the Riverside.

The Commonwealth Games have caused much early disruption to the first few weeks of the fixture list.

For Boro, moving their Sheffield United clash meant also doing the same for their next game – a trip to Stoke City.

That had been initially announced for Tuesday, August 16, but will now take place 24 hours later because of the Sheffield United game taking place on the Sunday now.

Burnley have signed Republic of Ireland midfielder Josh Cullen from manager Vincent Kompany’s former club Anderlecht.

Cullen, 26, has agreed a threeyear deal to become the Clarets’ sixth summer signing after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee, reported to be £3-3.5million.

Kompany said: “We are delighted to welcome Josh to the squad, he’s a hard-working and brave player, who will give everything for the team and the club.

“Josh is an intelligent midfielder, who is good on the ball and will help improve our side.”

Cullen will team back up with Kompany after spending the last two seasons at Anderlecht. He progressed through West Ham’s academy and had loan spells at Bradford, Bolton and Charlton before heading to Belgium in 2020.

Following relegation from the Premier League last season, Burnley have also signed Scott Twine, Luke McNally, CJ Egan-Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Samuel Bastien.
