Jack’s been growing his hair for those who need it

-

A YOUNG lad who has been growing his hair for two years to donate to charity is hoping to make another child’s dream come true.

Jack Bentley decided to grow his hair for the Little Princess Trust two years ago.

And while he has experienced name calling, it has not stopped him on his mission. The nine-year-old, from Billingham, is hoping to raise £700 in time for his next birthday in September, when the big cut is planned for.

It costs £550 to make a wig from donated hair and £150 to fit, which is what Jack is hoping to raise. So far, donations stand at £385.

Angelina Bentley, Jack’s mam, said: “As parents we are so very proud that he decided to do this, it just proves what a caring child he is.

“He saw an advert from the Little Princess Trust of a little girl with no hair receiving a wig, and how happy she was getting it fitted and twirling with it on.

“Jack asked me why she has no hair so I explained how people grow their hair to donate to charity and they made wigs for little girls and boys, so he asked me if he could grow his hair and of course I said yes.

“We have had teasing and tears, but Jack’s school has been supportive explaining to the other children why Jack is growing his hair.”

The Little Princess Trust supports children who have lost their hair to cancer or another condition. The donated hair is given to these brave children free of charge in hopes of restoring their confidence and identity. There is no formal funding to the charity. The Trust relies solely on members of the public, like Jack, who organise these fundraisers.

Jack and his family are raising the funds through a JustGiving page and a cafe in Billingham Town Centre, Mary’s Diner, has sponsor forms for people to complete. Donations of any size are welcome and hugely appreciated.
