Boro’s boss still has to earn his Spurs - Jordan
SIMON Jordan says Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick still has much to learn before being considered for a job like Tottenham’s
The 41-year-old’s excellent run since taking over at Boro has caught the attention of many, with three Premier League clubs previously linked with an interest in making him their future manager.
At his former club Tottenham, it was said they were monitoring him closely and were very impressed with his work at the Riverside.
After sacking Antonio Conte and working with interim managers until the end of the season, Spurs are now searching for their next manager.
Feyenoord boss Arne Slot was in the frame but performed a U-turn because they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Celtic boss Ange Postecoglu is the latest name said to be leading the race for the vacant post, though many continue to link Carrick with a return to the North London outfit after his two successful seasons at White Hart Lane as a player.
However, asked if he felt Carrick could be the right man for the job, ex-Crystal Palace owner Jordan was clear in his view. He said: “Not really. Carrick was part of a coaching setup at Manchester United.
“He stepped in after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was removed but I don’t think he showed any credentials there which could be of any use to Spurs at this stage.
“Carrick has done brilliantly well at Middlesbrough.
“I didn’t pick him to do as well as he’s done and he got them to a playoff spot which I don’t think chairman Steve Gibson would have thought would be the case when he hired him.
“However, he has a lot more to learn.
“Taking the Tottenham job at this stage would be very difficult step for him.
“I don’t think there is any landscape Tottenham will look that way.” ■ HENRI Lansbury will be released by newly-promoted Premier League side Luton Town when his contract expires at the end of June.
Lansbury joined the Hatters in 2021 after a stint with Bristol City, where he made 48 appearances.
However, as Luton prepare to make their return to the top flight for the first time since 1992, Lansbury will not play a part.
He had missed out on the club’s Championship play-off final win over Coventry City last weekend, the Hatters drawing 1-1 at Wembley, before securing a 6-5 penalty shootout win.
