Famous faces spotted filming new TV drama
AFTER THE FLOOD FEATURES PEAKY BLINDERS STAR
A NEW six-part mystery thriller has been spotted filming at the Tees Barrage.
Film crews were seen in Stockton this week as shooting was under way for After the Flood, an upcoming series about a town hit by a devastating flood.
The drama – which is set to star Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle and Life on Mars actor Philip Glenister – has been filming on Teesside since the end of May.
Footage taken from the Barrage shows production teams spraying water over a car parked in the canal, with an actress beside the vehicle shouting “Help! Please Help!”
Rundle, who plays PC Joanna Marshall, was spotted filming alongside House of the Dragon actress Tripti Tripuraneni, who was also wearing a police uniform.
Images also show that Jonas Armstrong – who is best known for his roles in The Bay, Floodlights, and BBC’s Robin Hood – was on set, with the actor playing the role of
Lee, a “seemingly heroic local man.” Details about Tripuraneni’s role in the series are currently unknown.
The filming captured the interest of many passersby, who took time to stop and watch from a distance as the director yelled “action.” Crews have also been filming in Manchester and parts of Yorkshire.
A fake bridge has been created at the Barrage behind the vehicle, and The Gazette understands that this is a recreation of a bridge from another location crews have been filming.
Rundle has also been seen wearing a prosthetic baby bump for scenes that were shot in Manchester.
The drama – which will come in the form of six 60-minute episodes – is being produced by Nicola Shindler’s Quay Street Productions and was written by screenwriter Mick Ford, who is known for hit Netflix shows Stay Close and The Stranger.
After the Flood follows the discovery of a dead unidentified man in the lift of an underground car park. While police assume he became trapped during the flood, the investigation starts to unravel as PC Marshall becomes obsessed with finding the truth.
The series promises to take a look at the real impact of climate change on the residents in the town, with a description saying the floods “threaten to expose secrets, and fortunes and reputations are at stake.”
Glenister takes on the role of property developer Jack Radcliffe alongside Lorraine Ashbourne, known for Bridgerton, playing Jo’s mother, Molly.
Other names in the star-studded cast include Nicholas Gleaves, of The Crown and Bodyguard, playing Sergeant Phil Mackie, Jo’s boss and
Nicola Shindler &
Richard Fee surrogate father figure, and Matt Stokoe as Jo’s husband, Pat.
Jacqueline Boatswain (Carnival Row, Anansi Boys) is cast as local politician Sarah Mackie.
Anita Adam Gabey (Royal Bastards: Rise of the Tudors, Baptiste), who plays Tasha Eden, also stars.
Earlier this year, Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee, executive producers of the series, said: “When Mick Ford brought the kernel of the idea of After the Flood to us, we were immediately drawn in.
“Not just by the catastrophic repercussions of a deadly environmental disaster in a town that could very well be our own, but also the intricacies and deception at the heart of the characters’ stories.
“We have a brilliant combination of writing, directing and acting talent on board to bring this series to life and we’re looking forward to working with our partners at ITV and BritBox International as we begin filming.”
Crews were understood to be due to finish filming there yesterday.
After the Flood will premiere on ITV1 and ITVX.
