Berb sees Carrick as Reds boss

-

FORMER Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov was asked questions about the current state of his former club – one of which being a potential future manager.

When asked if he thought any of his former teammates would ever manage the club, the Bulgarian name-dropped Boro boss Michael Carrick.

He said: “Not many players from my time at Manchester United have actually gone into management.

“Wayne Rooney would like to be a future Manchester United manager and I am pretty sure he is going to be.

“I am sure Michael Carrick would also like to be Manchester United manager in the future.

“Anybody would want to manage the club they love and Michael is currently doing very well at Middlesbrough.”

Carrick’s tenure at Middlesbrough has been a huge success so far, and despite the disappointing end to the season, clubs in the Premier League will surely be looking closely at the job the Englishman has done.

There is no denying the 41-year-old still has ties to his former club, after all he did have 12-year spell at Old Trafford as a player – something Berbatov recalls.

He added: “Michael was a very intelligent player on the pitch, a midfield maestro.

“He is showing everybody that he is a very intelligent manager too.”

The former Manchester United midfielder has been in charge of the Old Trafford club before, in a brief spell as caretaker manager in 2021, where he went unbeaten in his three-game tenure.

However, with the relative success of Erik Ten Hag, it is unlikely Manchester United will be on the lookout for a new manager any time soon.
