And the rest is history...
Take a trip into Britain’s past with smash hit stage show
IT JUST shows how “Barmy Britain” is – or was – that the Birmingham Stage Company is now on its fifth incarnation of the family theatre show that brings to life Terry Deary’s Horrible Histories stories.
There’s a William the Conqueror song where he admits “King Harold and me never saw eye to eye”, a special edition of Location, Location, Location with Henry VIII, and the trial of a Portsmouth witch from the Second World War who somehow knew secrets of how the war was going.
The new hit show, which until now has only been performed in London, is on a major UK tour from this month until October.
And it promises yet another gagfilled gallop through British history with two amazing actors – Ian Archdeacon and Alasdair Buchan – playing multiple historical roles.
Will you be conquered by William? Will you sink or swim with King Henry
I? And what about breaking into Buckingham Palace and hiding from Queen Victoria?
These are just some of the fascinating true stories audiences will discover in the funny hour-long show that was a huge West End hit in 2021.
Barmy Britain – NEW! is written by Neal Foster based on Terry’s bestselling Horrible Histories books, which celebrate their 30th anniversary this year.
The show is directed by Neal, with music by Matthew Scott and choreography by Kenn Oldfield.
It’s produced by Birmingham Stage Company which has produced all the Horrible Histories live stage shows since 2005, along with smash-hit productions of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny, Demon Dentist and Billionaire Boy, and adaptations of Roald Dahl stories like George’s Marvellous Medicine.
Recommended for people aged five to 105, it’s a “hysterical historical journey through Britain’s barmy past. It’s history with the nasty bits left in!”.
