Head W through gate and follow road to bridge. Follow track uphill, right of beck. At altitude 240m find your own way S then SE to where the beck runs through the intake wall at a gate, which can be climbed.

Follow quad bike tracks by the wall generally E to where a wall descends from Birk Knott. Follow either side of wall (low enough to step over here) to gap in wall on the ridge. Head ESE to Grayrigg Pike then return to wall.

Vague path follows ridge W over Grayrigg Forest and NW to repeater station mast. Track W to second mast, then bridleway WSW for 100m.

Take minor path W along ridge top, crossing two stiles to reach another wall crossing point at Whinfell Beacon. Minor path descends ridge NW to gate. Continue NW, diverting right to Castle Fell before dropping NW, crossing two stiles to enter conifer plantation.

Path weaves NE through trees, then climbs N to cairn. Descend NE then NW through gap in pines, and continue generally NW along ridge to meet bridleway near A6.

Drop NE to Borrow Beck, then follow second bridleway alongside beck for 4 miles to return.
