1 Start/Finish

Free parking at bend in road, south of Oak Inn, Bank GR: SU288067 (Alternativ­ely, Bolton’s Bench car park, Lyndhurst) Turn R, then R again along track. Head S and at next fork bear L (post 258). Carry on southwards, crossing Bolderford Bridge.

2 At corner of large grassy area, Black Knowl, follow path diagonally across it and turn L at Meerut Road. After road bends R keep ahead (L fork) at a green to continue to A337. Turn L, crossing Lymington River, then R along B3055/Balmer Lawn Road, and as road bends R keep ahead along track to Standing Hat car park.

3 Turn R (waymark post 291) and follow track to intersecti­on at post 305 (ignore all turnings beforehand). Turn R, crossing bridge over railway and keep ahead at next intersecti­on (post 308) to road/B3055. Go straight across and continue along access road to Roundhill Campsite, passing large pond on L. Turn R (post 314), bending L at junction.

4 At next intersecti­on (barrier ahead, post 316 beside it) leave cycle trail and turn R past another barrier. Follow path along edge of Beaulieu Heath, ignoring first bridleway on R.

5 Turn R at next bridleway and follow track past Little

Dilton. R at T-junction and L at next junction. Soon go through gate into Roydon Woods Nature Reserve. Follow bridleway/track, bear L at junction and continue to T-junction.

6 Turn R and at fork bear R. At Church Lane turn R to St Nicholas’ Church.

7 Fork R along track (to R of church) to B3055. Turn R and after 50m opposite North Lodge gatehouse turn L along track/path to railway crossed by footbridge. Keep ahead to A337 and turn R. Retrace steps to Standing Hat car park (pt 3). This time go via gate ahead and fork R (post 289). At post 287 bear L, R at 286, L at 285 and R at 283.

8 At post 281 go ahead (NNE) via footbridge and continue to B3056. Cross and follow broad track to L along ridge to Bolton’s Bench car park, named after landmark: yew trees atop knoll, surrounded by benches, planted as memorial to Duke of Bolton.

9 Follow main road into Lyndhurst, keeping ahead at first junction. After church take L fork, then R down Sandy Lane, L and R along Pinkney Lane to start.
