RHINOG FACH SCRAMBLE

-

An exciting and steep climb with stunning views

START/ FINISH: Park off the A470 at GR: SH684301 (Craigddu-isaf) Distance: 11.5km / 7 miles Ascent: 562m / 1843ft

Duration: 4 - 5 hours

Follow the forested gravel track in a westerly direction past Pistyll Gwyn until you emerge from the trees. Continue climbing along the pathway through the gates until you reach the top of the rocky pass at Drws Ardudwy (the door to Ardudwy). At SH664722823 there is a wall to the south with a break in it and a very faint and very steep scramble/path leading straight up. Once you are on the path, follow it through broken, rugged terrain until you emerge at the top onto a grassy ridge. Follow the ridge south to the peak of Rhinog Fach. Be sure to peer over the edge to marvel at Llyn Hywel. To return, follow the path back but continue to SH664274 where a steep grassy path leads you down west to Llyn Cwmhosan. Drop down from here to Bwlch Drws Ardudwy and return along the path to the car park.
