RHINOGYDD HORSESHOE

A long day walk with stunning scenery

-

START/ FINISH: Cors y Gedol

GR: SH602230

Distance: 17.8km / 11 miles (+ 0.6km / 0.3 miles if you take in Y Llethr) Ascent: 711m / 2332ft (+ 136m / 446ft if you take in Y Llethr)

Duration: 6 - 7 hours

Take the track heading east through the gate past Cors Uchaf and follow this upwards into the valley. In the valley the track becomes less steep. Approximately 4.3km up the track at SH639242, take the left-hand path up onto Braich (Arm). At the top there is a wall that takes you to the top of Crib y Rhiw. At this point you can decide to take the option of a steep climb to the north to the peak of Y Llethr, returning to the stile. If you choose to continue onwards, take the stile to the south across Crib y Rhiw to the top of Diffwys. This is a steep, clear path and there is a rewarding view of Cadair Idris from the top. Once you have been to the trig point, follow the path downwards to Pont Scethin and then track back to the car park to complete the horseshoe.
