The Uberlite is both the lightest and thickest mat tested. The weight of 250 grams for a full-length mat really is amazing but it does come with a catch. The fabric is quite thin and this mat needs a bit more care than inflatable ones with thicker shells – not that any mat that can be punctured should be treated harshly.

The Uberlite has an internal structure called the Triangular Core Matrix, which consists of two stacked layers of triangular baffles that give stability to the mat and reduce heat loss. This structure is why the Uberlite has a much higher R-value – 2.3 – than the other airbeds I tested. This makes it suitable for temperatures down to freezing. It’s still not a winter mat or for sleeping on snow though, except with a closed cell foam mat under it.

The internal structure gives the Uberlite quite a firm feel when fully inflated. It’s not uncomfortable but I prefer to let a little air out for a softer feel. The original Uberlite came with the simple valve Therm-a-Rest had been using for many years. The latest version has the new WingLock Valve, which makes it faster and easier to inflate as it’s a one-way valve with a larger opening. Deflation is quicker too.

This is a superb mat providing astonishing comfort and warmth for the weight. It is very expensive though.
