“What constitutes a news cycle in these parts? Perhaps a spider crawled around it in the 14th Century. In geological time, that would be just yesterday.”

David’s route: the 'Flowerdale Three'

START / FINISH: Lay by near Am Feur-Loch GR: NG856720 Distance: 34.8km/22 miles Ascent: 2357m/ 7732ft Duration: 2.5 days

Over about 2.5 days, I made three camps and traversed three Corbetts: Beinn an Eoin, Beinn Dearg and Baosbheinn. I shied away from descending the south ridge of the first hill. Having now completed the route, I now wonder if it might be even better in reverse. An ascent (rather than a descent) of the south ridge of Beinn an Eoin would be more confidence-inspiring, and the Castle crux workarounds on Beinn Dearg would be easier to spot going west to east too. Either way, much of this is very rough, pathless terrain and feels very remote. The crux taken direct would require basic climbing gear or a very good head for heights.
